Club Distance Records

Claim Form

1. This competition is designed to foster friendly rivalry and these Records are only for 'Bragging Rights' within the Club. Info will be displayed on this site. (updated monthly)

2. The purpose of Distance Records is to encourage experimentation by club members on the higher bands and to recognise the technical achievement of amateurs who work new record distances.

3. Our hope is also that it will encourage club members in going portable or mobile with VHF / UHF equipment

4. For the contact to be 'recorded' it must be between 2 Bundaberg Amateur Radio Club Members who are financial members at the time of the contact.

5. The contacts are to be simplex in nature. i.e. the contact is NOT to be through any repeaters, satellites etc.

6. All amateur Radio Frequencies 50Mhz and above will be recognised

7. The record categories are:

Home station/portable

This category includes all contacts made by any station, other than those in the categories below.

Mobile

This category is for contacts made by mobile stations. i.e. Vehicle to Vehicle using standard recognised mobile aerials. Note: Vehicle to home or portable station will be classified as a 'Home Station/Portable contact' as both parties have to be mobile to claim this category.

Handheld

this category is for contacts made between 2 stations using standard recognised handheld equipment using self contained battery packs and recognised handheld aerials. The handheld must be used in a normal manner and you can walk around while using equipment. i.e. the handheld is NOT to be the driven element of a beam or sat at focal point of a corner reflector etc.

Note: Handheld to home or portable station will be classified as a "Home Station/Portable Contact" and handheld to mobile will be classed as a "Mobile Contact" as both parties have to be using handheld equipment to claim this category.

ATV

This category is for all ATV contacts made using fast-scan ATV using modes with bandwidths similar to public TV broadcast standards - analogue (AM or FM) or digital

Digital Modes

This category is for contacts made using narrow band digital data modes with computer decoding.

EME

This category is for EME contacts

8. Contacts must satisfy a number of criteria before they can be accepted as new records. There must be a full exchange and acknowledgement of callsigns and signal reports, including some information that cannot be predicted by either operator. this information must be exchanged in full on the air and not by any means of backup such as liaison on a lower amateur band or via the Internet.

Distances are calculated from details of latitude and longitude supplied by the claimants. Claimants agree that the Committee's decision on their claim will be accepted as final.

Club Members who wish to claim new records should send all data needed to claim the distance to the club committee for evaluation. (see the email link below)

9. For further clarification the "VHF/UHF Distance Record Claims: Conditions" from the Wireless Institute of Australia, Technical Advisory committee, will be used as guide lines.

10. We are working on a format so that claims can be easily assessed. If you click on this link it will take you to a 'Sample Claim Form'. That's the information we need to verify your claim. So take a look, that's our interim form until we develop an interactive claim form.

We have our first records claimed.......

It took a while but the first record has been beaten by Dan & Joe sitting in their vehicle and Gail using a handheld whilst driving at 80km per hour (ok, Gail wasn't doing the driving just the talking) Can you do better??

The gauntlet has been thrown so let's see who can do better... while we were out foxhunting was the ideal time to steal some 'distances'.

Whose next?
