CONTACTS by MONTH

February January December

illw

THANKS TO SEVERAL CLUB MEMBERS FOR SHARING THEIR DX CONTACTS to inspire the rest of us.

We've asked members to send details to the Webmaster with such things as;
Date & time, Band or Frequency, Country. Signal Strength, Antenna or/or Rig as well as power used also any interesting notes about the contact that they would like to share.

When you're a new ham it's difficult to know when to switch bands, when to give up and go to bed or when the bands are coming alive.

So with that in mind. please share your experiences so our newer members can learn where to tune and who they should be listening for.

February

Had some interesting info from VK4JM that for 5th February the Hepburn Tropospheric Ducting Forecast Chart showed a very strong opening down the East Coast of Australia to Tassie.

He reports that it was spot on with contacts to VK2 -VK3 and VK7 ALL 40 over 9—In fact the strongest signals exchanged this season from his QTH with the opening lasting from about 0900 hrs through to 1600 hrs.

VK4JM has been spending a lot of time in his workshop building pieces for the fox hunt workshops but he's kepting an ear on the 6M band and finds himself continually interupted. smiley10

This is a report on his 50th contact this season and he reports good contacts from all VK states and ZL's.

Rusty VK4JM: QSO with VK7AC Norm –QTH Grindelwald 18km northwest of Launceston.
Station at Elliott Heads is an ICOM 575H running 75 watts of sideband into a 6 el home brew Yagi at 30ft.

Dan VK4FAUS submitted this contact: QSO with KH6RC Hawaii 12/12/08 1140 Eastern standard time

Freq and Signal: 28.4900 Mhz. his signal strength.5 and 9, my signal strength 5 and 3.

My Station: Kenwood TS130se, 10 watts pep, 5 element yagi @ 28 feet.

Found the contact by monitoring 28.4900 Mhz. Knowing that this is a 10m calling frequency, but the KH6 station just came in on the DX without any research on my behalf.

Was not actually monitoring for Hawaii stations, as the beam was facing South as I had been Qsoing with VK3 and VK7 stations, and required me to turn my beam toward him. Very nice surprise contact!
